Did you know?
The Mission of Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua (a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization since 1986) is to "provide year-round cultural activities that are both entertaining and educational with emphasis on execellent performances that celebrate history and the environment
•Our 2011 Season consisted of 25 original performances, 34 guest artist performances, 3 family matinees, 10 educational workshops, our 2nd annual Big Top Idol competition, our 4th annual Songwriting competition and 5 free community performances and special events.
•This year we had an annual budget of nearly $1.5 million. A bit more than 60% of this revenue comes from ticket sales. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, we rely on sponsors, donors, special events and other projects for 40% of the cost of operations each year. This year that 40% comes to $561,650.
•Our Silver Anniversary Celebratory Commission, led by Mary Rice, hosted a magical opening night gala celebration under the tent and spearheaded a major fund-raising campaign successfully raising $200,000 toward our Anniversary programs and helping to launch our next 25 years from a more secure financial position.
•The tent welcomed nearly 28,000 attendees this season, an increase of 16% over the 2010 season attendance.
•Our Big Top team consists of 4 full-time year-round staff, 3 year-round part time staff, 11 summer staff, 2 interns, 20+ local musicians and performers during the summer season and nearly 200 volunteers.
•Without the annual support of those that value Big Top’s role in our community, in our state and beyond – we could not continue to provide the programs and experiences that we have all come to cherish.
• As a small token of our appreciation, we are offering limited time premiums including anniversary patches, pins, prints and music samplers.
Help Big Top Plan For The Future
Charter membership in the Big Top Chautauqua Heritage Society is still being accepted. This is a great chance to help Big Top prepare for a secure future by planning now to make a significant bequest to the Performance Fund, Big Top's endowment.
Once you have provided for your family and other loved ones in your will, you may want to include a gift to Big Top of money, stock or property. Your gift will be a lasting tribute to your concern for our mission, while ensuring our long-term future. For more information contact
